From The Livestock Conservancy:
The Black Welsh Mountain Sheep is the only completely black sheep breed in Britain. It was developed in the mountains of Wales from black sheep that occurred in the Welsh Mountain breed, which was white. About a century ago, Welsh shepherds began to breed the black sheep together, also selecting for a finer fleece and improved body conformation. The resulting breed, also known by their Welsh name, Defaid Mynydd Duon, was recognized in 1922 with the establishment of the Black Welsh Mountain Sheep Society.

From Animalovin.com:
The Romney sheep breed originates from the marshy area of Kent, England. It’s one of the oldest known sheep breeds, with a history dating back to the 13th century.

The sheep were initially domesticated in the wet and boggy English lowlands east coat of Sussex and Kent. It’s here that Romney developed their hardy traits like strong black hooves resistant to foot rot and robust fleeces that withstand rainfalls and wet climates.
