Workshop Examples
Beginner - Intermediate Felting Projects
Felting techniques for the beginner or intermediate felter.
Numerous
small projects will be completed in this full-day class.
A decorated felt ball will demonstrate the use of both felting needles
and the wet-felting technique. Pre-felted
inlays will be made and incorporated into a basic flat felt piece. Embossed
felt will be made and utilized to make a small felt pouch.
Gossamer felt technique will be taught to make a sample piece in
which silk will be utilized for surface design.
Felted Vessel (Half-Day
Class)
Using the
resist method, a 6-inch tall felted vessel will be constructed using dyed
merino wool. This project will
demonstrate the technique of felting around an existing vessel such as a
glass jar in order to create a basic hood.
Using a second vessel as a mold, the felt will be stretched over
until dry to create the finished form.
Application of stiffener paste will be addressed and utilized as time
permits. Beginner and
intermediate felters welcome.
Elegant Felt -- Sumptuous Surfaces
Take felt making to the ultimate level. Submerge yourself in sumptuous
silks, yummy yarns and fabulously fine fibers to create felt scarves
and wraps that demand to be touched. Explore the latest products made especially for fiber artists interested in superior surface design.
Gossamer Scarf (One-Day Class)
Using fine merino wool, a
featherweight felt scarf will be completed in
this full-day workshop. Emphasis
will be on layout technique for fine felt, as well as the use of silk,
viscose and other embellishments for design work.
Students will learn how to make straight edges with ease.
Participants must have prior felting experience for this class.
Students must bring: 2
old towels, a permanent felt marker, tape measure or yardstick, water bottle
with pull-up cap, iron (if possible)
‘Bearly’ Felted (Half-Day Class)
Beginner
and intermediate felters will enjoy making these small bears.
Using the wet-felting method along with assistance from the felting
needle, these small bears will be made from merino/corriedale batts in
several colors. Students will
learn tips on creating the features that bring the bears to life.
Felted vests will be made keep the bears warm.
