- Silk Hankies or Mawata refers to this type of silk preparation in which the softened cocoons are stretched over a small frame and stacked together.
I use the undyed hankies when I felt dryer balls. I have a little difficulty with my hands and the hankies are a natural product I can trust and they help hold the wool in place in the felting process. Unlike using hosiery I don't find that the hankies felt into my finished product. A bonus feature is that they add a little interest in the look of the dryer balls.
